Several years ago, Leo Burnett transitioned from the traditional "Take Your Child To Work Day" and began the Kids Day tradition. On Kids Day, each floor in the Leo Burnett building designs game and activites, often based on their clients or expertise. My team always chose to create a series of games and interactions, to showcase our favorite technologies or give a reason to experiment with emerging ones.
For 2013, our theme was "Carnival."
- Using face detection, we gave kids a digital alternative to face painting. Using a foot pedal, they could step up to the screen and see themselves with a variety of carnival-themed virtual masks, including lions, tigers and bears.
- A virtual shooting gallery was crafted from an infrared touch wall. To fire "shots", we modified squirt guns that instead of water, would close a circuit and trigger a laser pointer.
- Our showcase piece utilized an infrared touch wall to recreate the can toss game. Kids could throw a ball at the screen, which would detect the throw as a touch and knock down a virtual stack of cans. Various rounds were set up to the kids' surprise, including Giant Can, No Gravity Cans, and Hundreds of Cans.
