In Fall 2013, Sprint hosted a competition through Instagram to tag interesting and meaningful pictures of Chicago. Winners would have their work featured on a large interactive display at the Art Institute of Chicago. Visitors to the exhibit would be able to access their Instagram accounts, choose their photos, choose an animation style, and view their work.
For display, an 8 foot x 8 foot cube was built from stack-able LED screens. At its center was a video switching PC that received input from four Mac's in a remote location. To allow quick sign-in and selection of Instagram photos, a native iOS app was written that communicated to the primary PC via a socket connection. This app was then installed on four iPads and given to four hired modeling talent to engage the crowd throughout the night.
The cube was debuted at the Nov. First Friday event at the Art Institute.
