For years, we had maintained Raytheon’s “Math Moves U” web experience--an interactive web portal providing entertainment and education for a wide age range of children. Raytheon then decided to expand this experience by moving it from the web to museums around the country. The first hosted location was the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
For this exhibit at the Smithsonian (named "Math Alive"), I was tasked with starting the Math Moves U website (a Flash-based site, with pseudo 3D elements) and converting it to a touch-based kiosk experience with real 3D elements. To maximize the reuse of existing assets, Adobe AIR was chosen as the delivery platform (shorty after AIR was updated for GPU acceleration). In addition to our usual QA process, it was further tested on younger users to make sure it would hold up in the environment of a children's museum.
